Liveable sculpture

The German novelty

There are those realities that never cease to surprise us. Often the subject of our columns, Germany has once again been given an important place in our blog. That’s why we’ve created a new column on how this country is the cradle of the world’s first liveable sculpture. In the following lines, in fact, we will explain in detail a truly avant-garde project. The result of the Italian company WASP, a leader in the 3D printing sector: the first “House of Dust”!

This is the first contemporary work of art that, in addition to being liveable and sustainable, is printed entirely in 3D. Fascinating, isn’t it?
So, if you are also interested in similar topics, as well as being a 3D technology lover, you are in the right place! The new column is about to start! Brace yourselves, because today our journey will be an extravagant one to say the least!

The idea

The idea behind the House of Dust dates back to 1967. At that time, Alison Knowles decided to inaugurate a work with this very name. Very bizarre.
It represented the relationship between man and machine. Using a Siemens 4004 computer. This computer was able to write a poem generated entirely by its own operating system. This was the first example of a computer-generated poem that autonomously created stanzas through lines and words. This was the first step and also the inspiration for several studies on structural-human relations.
It is therefore not surprising that, many years later, a combination of real estate, technology and art has been added.

The liveable sculpture

The creator of this project therefore, influenced by this idea, has developed an unprecedented house. The House of Dust can be defined as the result of more than 500 machine codes, 8 m³ of totally natural materials, a surface of 16 square metres, a height of 2 ½ m and 50 hours of printing. the house was inaugurated on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the State of Hesse, during the “tinyBE – living in a sculpture” on the Kranzplatz.

We can say that this structure is nothing more than the physical transformation, layer upon layer, of natural materials, of the artist’s poetry. The actual emblem of how technological advancement leads to a constant dialogue between man and technology. But also to new forms of habitability.

Obviously this is the first completed project. But the figures speak for themselves. In fact, numerous new projects have been inaugurated which are oriented precisely towards the creation of habitable sculptures which can combine comfort, sustainability and art. All linked by technology.

Of course, we don’t know how long this new trend will last. And above all, we don’t know how much the idea of 3D printing houses will affect our choices. If you want to know more about this and many other topics that gravitate around the real estate, you just have to keep on following us. Every day on Realigro, you will find many unmissable news!
Would you ever live inside a 3D house that is actually a sculpture?
