Shiplap Wall

How to make it without wood !

Have you ever heard of Shiplap wall? You have probably had the chance to see a lot of them, without knowing they were called that. What are we referring to, then, with this term? Shiplap is a type of wooden board commonly used to cover houses. Both externally and internally. The style that immediately evokes a shiplap wall is rustic and country style.

But, if you want, you can also use it to make your home much closer to the shabby chic style! The main feature, is the subdivision of the wall into many wooden planks, which are perfectly inserted following a horizontal orientation. In this period, many people want to revolutionize their home. Maybe without spending much! Today, we at Realigro have thought about this: how to create a shiplap wall without spending much ?
Well, get ready, because in the next few lines we will find out how to do it!

Shiplap Wall

What do you need for a shiplap wall?

Let’s start from the assumption that you absolutely do not have to buy wooden beams. Yes, I do. All you need is a bit of manual skill, order and some tools that you will surely have at home.
As we have anticipated, you will have to recreate the idea of wooden beams. So, you will need :

  • light paint (preferably white)
  • primer (only if you already have it at home)
  • dark grey paint ( or at least a darker tone than the base )
  • tray and roller
  • corner brush
  • wallpaper
  • pencil
  • level

How to do it ?

The very first thing to do to create a shiplap wall is to cover everything that does not need to be the object of this transformation, using wall tape, especially on the sockets. In this way you will avoid doing any damage !
In addition, delimit the area. Always with the tape, cover the boundary with the nearby walls. In this way you will have a good base to work on.

Second step!

Now you just have to start! After passing the first coat of light paint, take a pencil and level the area. Draw precise horizontal lines, always using the spirit level and white tape. The size we recommend for the height of your fake boards is 15 cm. Between one axis and the other, remember to leave some space, always delimited by our wall tape, to create the “grooves”.

Step Three

After having delimited the whole, with a brush and the darker paint, fill the grooves, taking care not to insert too much paint. With a little patience, you will be able to complete the whole thing. Remember not to be in a hurry! Better to do things step by step, and wait for the paint to dry, rather than quickly. At the risk of making a mess!

With a few simple tricks, you’ll get your shiplap wall! And you, are you ready to do it?
